From CRTA Hotline:
07.27.06 - STRS Rate of Return Increases

This morning the State Teachers’ Retirement System announced that their investment rate of return was 13.2 percent for the 2005-06 fiscal year. This 13.2 percent rate of return far exceeds the assumed 8 percent rate of return used to calculate the STRS retirement obligation.

Congratulations to the STRS Board, leadership and investment staff. These earnings should further reduce the STRS unfunded obligation and ease the process needed to reach full funding.

The California Legislature returns on August 7th while Congress leaves for its recess on August 4th. We do not expect any significant action on CRTA’s issues during August.

PROTECT YOUR PROFESSION!!
PROTECT YOUR PENSION!!

From Karen Durst, CRTA Area XI Legislative Chairman

We are at a critical point, working up to the November election.

.. Over the last couple of months, through Division newsletters and email communication, and at luncheon meetings, you have been encouraged to register to vote.

Now you must
VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
If you are an absentee voter, mail your ballot in right away. If you do not get it mailed on time, you may deliver it to any polling place in the county on election day.

Who wins. and who loses. is going to depend on voter turnout.

The normal voter turnout in an off year election is normally around 23% and favors those who put the initiative on the ballot.

We must double the expected voter turnout to win in November. We must increase the turnout to 42% or higher.

The survival of Public Education as we know it, depends upon every member voting.

The future of your pension plan depends upon it!

Remember, anything to do with salaries
(new teachers),
being able to fight for what is right (dues),
and the budget (governor’s control) will affect your pension!

CRTA is proud to recognize the efforts and achievements of our members, present, past and future.
