"LUCKY IS THE WORD THAT COMES TO ME"
* * * * *
A TRUE STORY
Inspiration for this poem
Rana, has recovered from her bout with leukemia!
She has been in remission some 4 years now!
That’s the GOOD NEWS!

Lucky is the word that comes to me
At the turn of things that pertain to thee.

Thy lot that seemed so very drear
Changed day to night for those so near.
The warmth of spring turned to snow---
But such a landscape long ago!

Now the flowers, birds, busy bees
Alive and fresh like new-leafed trees!
A million frogs, all yours to tend---
Not one of them real---but you pretend
The biggest, ugliest that makes you wince
Till kissed so softly, becomes a prince!

Lucky is the word that comes to me
At the turn of things that pertain to thee!

A galore of characters in this play
Moving in and out on a given day.
Mom proved brave in a principal part
As did your Dad with all his heart!

Big brother Savitri, loyal and true,
Quietly stalwart as he sat with you.
As this drama reached its ultimate peak
His eyes glistened though he couldn’t speak!

Kaya and Gea, sisters dear,
Shed many a silent, wrenching tear
For Rana, star of this dramatic piece,
Our pretty granddaughter and Tanya’s niece!

Your Grandma, perhaps, best of all
Knows the evils that can befall.
She’s been there twice, unflinchingly strong,
With courage rare and a happy song!

And as for Grandpa, who recorded these shows,
Comparing them rightly to birthing throes.
Seemingly endless, excruciating pain
The price we pay for such great gain!

To make sense of Life, its joy and its sorrow
So that we’re eager for every tomorrow.
Lucky is the word that comes to me
At the turn of things that pertain to thee!

You’ve taken your bows, received the cheers
For a stellar performance beyond your years.
However great other roles might test
This first, for your life, by far the best!
